The Wild One 20/26 msrp is $5995 plus whatever shipping would run to Puerto Rico. Give us a call if you want to order one. I believe they are in stock at the US warehouse.

Hi there. We have the cart disabled because we’ve found it’s important to speak directly with our customers to ensure they purchase the correct recumbent for their needs. Please give Mark a call after the weekend at(720)560-1178–or email us at backcountryrecumbentcycles@gmail.com to speak further about what you’re looking for. Thanks so much, Renge’, BRC

I am interested in the RANS Alterra, however have some questions: 1. Why does it come in wheel sizes 26 or 29? For me (5′ 11″, 175 lbs) a 27.5 diameter wheel seems about right; 2. Have you considered, or would you consider, an internal hub such as the Rohloff 14; .3 I am in Salt Lake City, UT. Would you consider working with a bike shop here such as Wasatch Touring? I am looking for a bike that can climb on road or gravel, but no extreme trails. Thanks

Hi, Christopher—so sorry we missed your message. RANS hasn’t made those in years and we can’t get them. If you haven’t come up with an alternative in the meantime, please give us a call for some suggestions. Mark is always happy to try to help find the right fit for people. Off the top of his head, he suggests checking out the HP Velotechnik Grasshopper and any of the AZUB recumbent bikes. (720) 560-1178. Thanks, Renge’, BRC

I was wondering if you had the golfing hing available for this and if so how much it would cost me. I love the bike. I live in the Willamette Valley or I would just come in and ask.

I recall the beloved Schwinn I learned to ride at age five. Bike choices change with time and there have been many through the years. Now in my 70’s I needed something age appropriate and Mark at Backcountry Cycles offered a suggestion. I am so happy with my choice and grateful for Mark’s ability to patiently listen to my needs and match me up with the perfect trike. Throughout the transaction communication was excellent.

As they say, “There is a woman behind . . . ” Beautiful Renge was so helpful in making sure I knew how everything worked and that details were completed.

Thanks to Backcountry Cycles, Mark and Renge, I am looking forward to riding many more years to come.

Hello Mark, I have read your comments on different posts about touring the Great Divide. Years back you shipped me an Azub fat trike which you then sold on consignment. Any new thoughts? The Azub six sounds good but I am a weak climber and I like the trike ability to stop and start on a hill. I occasionally get bouts of being a little dizzy so a bicycle sometimes is precarious. I am having a Priority 600x shipped to me which I liked 2nd to the Pinion and belt drive but has all the problems of an upright comfort primarily neck should but trouble climbing hills. Thank you for your thoughts. Doug

Hi, Doug. Give me a call if you’d like to talk specifics (720) 560-1178. Otherwise, I don’t think a recumbent bike is going to be a great solution for you with those conditions you mentioned, particularly balance issues. That being said, yesterday we got to test ride the SteinTrike Wild One and now are dealers for them. The 4” of suspension gravel, the 20” wheel version has exceptional traction for a tadpole trike, and it is going to be my go-to for off-pavement trike packing tours this year. They are as a good of quality as anything else out there. Other manufacturers are out 3 mos+ in delivery time, whereas we can get Steintrikes much quicker. The Steintrike Wild One is much faster and lighter than the AZUB Fat. Thanks, Mark

Hey, Chris. Thanks for the chat. In case I didn’t make it clear earlier—-the VTX really is still the Vortex. ICE just changed the name for a rebrand after making a couple of little changes that essentially do not affect performance at all. Also, the Vortex in the shop has an $800 Schlumpf drive. You would save about $2k over getting the same thing in a new VTX. Thanks, Mark (720) 560-1178

My wife and I recently demoed trikes at Seattle trike and RPDX in Portland. I’ve been riding a Cannondale Easy Rider since 2002 and like the recumbent feeling, easy on the back, butt and wrists. I think our favorite was the ICE Adventure HD FS. My wife couldn’t get over how fun they were! That ergo luxe seat makes a long day a piece of cake! Is it true that ICE will be coming out with a boom for us boomers that can accept assist in the future? We have our RV in storage in Redmond and will be down late March to continue our voyage of the US.

Really like your review on the AZUB 6.
Have you tested models with the OSS ( above seat steering)?
All my recumbents have been that configuration. But I am so tempted by the AZUB 6 with USS, even though I have never tried any recumbent with USS.
If you have tested both configuration would you comment on the major handling differences, advantages and disadvantages you have found?
Thanks so much for your different reviews.

My wife and I ordered an ICE Adventure after talking to Mark many times. I can’t emphasize enough Mark’s vast recumbent knowledge and his willingness to share made decision to purchase thru Backcountry a no brainer. I called many recumbent shops and NOBODY was even close to being in Mark’s league!
Mark helped to clarify many aspects of ‘trike vs bike’ giving us the confidence to go with a trike WITHOUT EVER EVEN RIDING one! That’s how good Mark is!! I had no doubts it was the right decision for my wife’s new ride!
While waiting for the factory order to be completed, we happened to find an ICE Adventure on CL with Rohloff gearing – too good of a deal to pass up!! So instead of just a new ride for my wife, now we each got to have a recumbent trike – SCORE!!!!!
We are now a couple of months into triking and couldn’t be happier! Riding a trike is like being in a sports car with how fun it handles! I love the fact that now I don’t have to wear any special bike shorts to reduce ‘saddle soreness’ because on a trike – NOTHING HURTS when done riding! And no more Ibuprofen required after a ride! I’m liken’ triken”!!!!
Thank you Mark for showing us the light and giving us the confidence to hope on board!!!
We have now purchased a Hitchrider Double-Decker and are looking forward to taking our trikes on our next camping adventure! Fun, fun, fun!!!!

Up until 2015 I was a recumbent rider for 5 years. My first unit was a Catrike Expedition, then I changed to a Catrike 700. Then I was hit by a car and wrote off the trike. So I then got another Catrike 700. But I was spooked from the accident and decided to quit riding. Over the past 2 years I have been getting the urge to ride again but now I am more interested in the ICE VTX. But right now I was wondering if you come across any used ICE VTX trikes?

Hi, Jim! Sorry, but we can’t ship Tridents. If you can make it up to Central Oregon, we are happy to order and assemble it for you. Give us a call if you’d like to discuss further. Thanks, Mark (720) 560-1178

Hi. We spoke months ago about riding the GDMBR with an Azub 6. (Thanks!) I was able to find a used one here on the east coast.

I seem to recall your mentioning someone having a good solution for carrying extra water in the Expedition Rack. If so, could you please remind me what worked for them? Thanks so much.

Does the above price for the Azub 6 include mudguards and rear rack as set up in the picture?

Do you have any cat trikes in stock? Would you be willing to open on a Monday or Tuesday?

Hi, Shelly! So sorry, your email didn’t come through via our email and I’m just seeing this note now. Yes, we have a number of catrikes in stock–anything in particular you’re looking for? And yes, we do by appointment as needed–are you planning a trip through the Bend area? Please give us a call directly to facilitate a conversation–Mark Waters, (720) 560-1178 Thanks!

    Hello BRC,
Is the Ranger still being produced or offered for sale? If not, what is comparable to it?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Hi, Steve. Lightfoot is out of business. We had a Ranger in the shop, which we got in to try out. Frankly, it was an atrocious bike off-road! Imo, going to the RANS Alterra or the Azub Max is a much better choice for off-road riding. Give me a call if you’d like to talk further—Mark (720) 560-1178

The Catrike 700 may be the fastest recumbent trike available, certainly the fastest for under $3000.

Your recommendations please. I have a villagers w/ hubmotor in our winter grounds. I like it but some trouble in the desert. I’m thinking light weight, folding, off road with a lunacycle two speed hub for stealth and low speed crawl. Needs to go on the airlines. What do you think? Thanks Dale Alaska

      Hi, Dale!
Could you give us a call tomorrow afternoon when we are in the shop? I’d be happy to talk with you about that, but it’s a somewhat complex conversation that’d be better over the phone. Thanks, Mark Waters, BRC

I havn’t had a car for 26 years. I taught special ed high school students for 40 yrs. I retired 1 1/2 years ago. I rode to work everyday sun, snow or rain. I had raced for some, but my love is touring and getting out for long rides. I recently had a bike accident where I fracture C-2 vertibrae and can’t ride , I bought a used tour easy recently and had to put padding in the seat. I have put on 200 miles in last week and half. I find hills are difficult and stop signs where I have to start on uphill gradient. I’m looking for 2 wheel touring bike that I can put panniers on and be able to put on airplane. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m 68 years old. A good ride is a souldance, and all rides or good. Bill

I have my “idea ” of wanting to go fast but am tired of flats with 650c tires do 20″ tires flat as much? and are they significantly slower?
I am currently on a bachetta corsa and I like it, but want to ride more and repair flats less. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I live in reno nv and ride river paths and roads with an occasional trip out of town. we seem to have lots of goatshead stickers and glass.
(I have liners and slime in my tires and tubes.)

Thank you for the very informative article on Azub MAX. I can feel your enthusiasm in each sentence for this well-crafted machine. I do not own one YET….but will definitely be purchasing one in the near future. Your article helped get me over the ‘ridge’ of that decision. There are so many good/great recumbents on the market now…but I do not believe there is anything as good as an Azub that can go as many places and perform with such dependable aplomb. Thank you again:).

Hey, Paul! Sorry we missed your comment here on the Backcountry Recumbent Cycles website about the Azub Max–we don’t get many messages here that aren’t spam, I’m afraid. Wondering if you ended up with a Max? Please let us know if you have any questions or would just like to talk recumbents awhile–Mark is always happy to do that. (720) 560-1178 Cheers! Renge’
